A procedure is a set of steps that a person or organization follows to accomplish a specific task. The sequence of steps must make it obvious to the person implementing the process what to do. A process is not simply a collection of statements, but must be structured to guide the person in completing the task. If the procedure consists of only statements, it is not a procedure. In order for a procedure to be effective, it must follow a certain order and follow a specific goal.

A procedure is a standardized, well-defined method for performing an activity or process. It suggests a specific start and end. Using a procedure to accomplish a task is useful when employees are uncertain about how to complete a task. It promotes good practice by giving examples of the ideal behavior that should be demonstrated. It is important for procedures to be followed consistently, as they can prevent mistakes or other problems from occurring. Also, procedures help reduce the amount of time and effort spent on an office project.

A procedure consists of a sequence of steps that must be followed in order to achieve a goal. These steps are often associated with policies. The policy should be clear and concise and clearly define what the procedure should accomplish. Once the procedure is complete, control of the process passes back to the calling code. A procedure can include several Return statements, which are also considered to be separate steps in the same procedure. However, procedures are usually considered best practices, which makes it possible to improve them over time.
